About
About Driving Test Practice
Permit practice tests that teach: every answer explained, every answer traced to your state’s own handbook.
Why we built it
The written permit test is the first step to driving, and the handbook it comes from is long. Many practice sites give you questions with a tick or a cross and no reason, or one set of questions for every state when the rules differ from one state to the next. We wanted each state’s test written from that state’s handbook, with the reason for every answer and the page it comes from, so practice teaches the rule and not just the letter.
What is here
- A free practice test for all 50 states and DC.
- The road signs test, with pictures, from the federal sign manual.
- The permit test by state: questions, pass mark and permit age for every state, each with its source.
- The Pass Pack: every question, full practice exams and your missed questions saved.
How the questions are written
Every question is written in our own words from one passage of the state’s official handbook, and links to it. A second session checks each one against that passage before it is published. How the tests are written explains the process.
Independence
Driving Test Practice is an independent website. It is not run by, linked to or approved by any state department of motor vehicles or other agency, and uses no state seal, logo or branding. The real test is taken with your state, from its handbook; check the handbook before you sit the test.
How the site is paid for
The free tests are paid for by ads from Google AdSense, placed below the tests and never inside them, and by the Pass Pack. Test and guide pages also carry one labelled box for StudyLah, a tuition service for students in Singapore. Our privacy policy explains how ads and cookies work.
