Answer: A. 14
North Dakota issues instruction permits from age 14 once you pass the knowledge and vision tests. Anyone under 18 also needs a parent or legal guardian to sign as sponsor.
Show the answer
Answer: C. A driver licensed for that vehicle class who is at least 18 and has at least three years of driving experience
Your supervisor must hold a valid license for the class of vehicle, be at least 18, have at least three years of driving experience, and sit in the seat beside you.

Answer: B. 50
Permit holders under 16 need at least 50 hours of supervised driving in varied conditions, such as rural, city, gravel, night and winter driving. This is on top of driver's education, and a parent signs for it on road test day.

Answer: D. 6 months
Drivers who are 16 or 17 must hold the permit for six months, or until they turn 18 if that comes sooner, before the road test.

Answer: B. From sunset or 9:00 p.m., whichever is later, until 5:00 a.m.
A 15-year-old on a restricted license may not drive from the later of sunset or 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. unless a parent, guardian or someone at least 18 is along. The only exceptions are a direct trip to or from a job, an official school event or a religious event.

Answer: C. Only to get emergency help, to stop a crime, or when someone's life or safety is in danger
Permit holders of any age, and licensed drivers under 18, may not use a phone or other electronic device to talk, read or send messages while driving. The only exceptions are emergencies, stopping a crime, or a real danger to someone's safety.

Answer: A. 12 or more
Once your record shows 12 or more points, NDDOT tells you it plans to suspend your license and that you may ask for an administrative hearing. At 12 points the suspension is 7 days; at 13 or more it is 7 days for each point over 11.

Answer: D. From a one-way street onto another one-way street, unless a sign forbids it
North Dakota allows a left turn on red only from a one-way street onto another one-way street, and not where a sign prohibits it. The red light still means you stop first and wait for pedestrians and traffic to clear.
Show the answer
Answer: C. 25 mph
The limit in business and residential districts is 25 mph unless a different limit is posted. Go slower when conditions call for it.
Show the answer
Answer: B. 80 mph
Rural Interstates allow up to 80 mph unless posted lower; other paved, divided multi-lane highways are 70 mph. A speed limit is the most you may drive in ideal conditions, not a target.

NDDOT's manual and web pages do not say how many questions the test has or how many you need to pass. Source.

If you are 14 or 15 you must hold it for 12 months or until you turn 16, whichever comes first (but at least six months), and log at least 50 hours of supervised driving on top of driver's education; at 16 or 17 you must hold it for six months or until 18, whichever comes first. North Dakota rules worth knowing before the test
- If you leave the testing area before your knowledge test is finished, or bring a phone, bag or other banned item into it, you get a failing score. Source
- You can take the knowledge test online at nd.knowtodrive.com, but you still have to book an appointment at a Driver License office to pick up your permit. Source
- You may make only one attempt at the knowledge test per day. Source
- Drivers under 18 who build up six or more points, or commit an alcohol or drug offense while driving, have their permit or license cancelled and must start over as if they had never had one. Source
- If you are 14 or 15, your permit lets you drive only a vehicle belonging to your parent, guardian, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle (you may use another vehicle for the road test). Source
- Everyone in the vehicle, in every seat, must wear a seat belt under North Dakota law. Source
- Texting while driving (writing, reading or sending a message) is illegal for every driver in North Dakota, whatever their age. Source
- If you change your name or address, you must tell the Driver License Division within 10 days. Source
