Missouri rules worth knowing before the test
- The written test is 25 multiple-choice questions taken from the Driver Guide, and you need 20 correct. It is not open book, and the commercial vehicle chapter is not on the Class F test. Source
- Under 16, a permit driver may drive only with a parent, stepparent, grandparent, legal guardian or driving instructor in the front seat, or with an adult 25 or older who has been licensed for three years and has the parent's written permission. From 16, any licensed driver 21 or older may supervise. Source
- To get an intermediate license you need six months on your permit, 40 supervised hours with 10 at night, no traffic convictions in the last six months and no alcohol convictions in the last 12 months, and you must pass the driving test. Source
- With an intermediate license you may not drive alone from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. except for school activities, work or emergencies, and there are limits on passengers under 19 who are not family. Source
- For most adult drivers the legal limit is a BAC of .08 percent. Drivers under 21 are limited to .02 percent and commercial drivers to .04 percent. Source
- Traffic convictions add points to your record. Eight or more points in 18 months suspends your license, and 12 or more in 12 months revokes it for a year. Source
- While your vehicle is moving you may not hold a phone, type or read texts, or watch or record video. Hands-free calls and voice-to-text are allowed. Source
